NOAA is adopting Multi-cloud strategy to avoid its reliance on single cloud provider and take advantage of innovation by multiple providers. But this strategy posed a migration challenge for its High Performance Computing (HPC) architecture used to process Weather Satellite Data – should the HPC architecture be Cloud native or Cloud Agnostic across AWS, Azure and GCP.
Alpha Omega’s cloud architects evaluated multiple HPC architectures from Cloud native to Cloud Agnostic to identify the right mix cloud-native and Cloud-agnostic tools and services that ensured high portability across three clouds while also providing high maintainability through open source tools and services such as PBSPro, Kubernetes and Docker containers. In support of this architecture AOI team also developed CI/CD pipeline for science development.
Alpha Omega’s highly portable and maintainable architecture enables NOAA to its Satellite data ingest, processing and distribution algorithms across multiple clouds avoiding vendor lock-in and expanding cloud services availability.
